West Coast Swing is a partner dance with roots in the Lindy Hop. It is characterized by an elastic look that results from its extension-compression technique of partner connection and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor. Part of the appeal of WCS is that it is an adaptable dance; it can be danced to a variety of musical styles and genres. Salsa can be danced on1 (LA style), on2 (New York style), or in various other regional styles, each with its own unique flavor and characteristics. Bachata can be danced in various styles, including traditional, modern, and sensual, each with its own interpretation of the music and unique choreographic elements.
