Social dancing is a non-competitive version of ballroom and Latin dancing. Social dancing is less formal that exhibition dancing and is meant to be enjoyed while socializing.
Competitive ballroom dancing is known as Dancesport. Ballroom dancers compete like athletes, and they perform like artists.
A showcase is a recital for ballroom dancers. Keep in mind that your Showcase choreography should be hard for you in the beginning. It’ll take time to feel comfortable with what you’re learning.
International Ballroom (Standard)
International Ballroom, also called Standard, includes five dances: waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, slow foxtrot, and quickstep.
International Latin
International Latin, usually referred to as simply Latin, also includes five dances: cha cha, samba, rumba, paso doble, and jive.
American Smooth
American Smooth includes four dances —Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz. Smooth allows closed, open, and solo dance movements.
American Rhythm
The American Rhythm includes five dances: Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, and Mambo.
